This novel tells the story of John Clayton "Tarzan", son of Lord Greystoke John Clayton, and Alice Rutherford, an English couple abandoned in the jungle on the west coast of Equatorial Africa. The spouses bring a child into the world in their modest hut before they are killed by the beasts.
